Without rest, Mavs star Luka Doncic is going to continue to experience soreness in his ankle.

That's at least what Mavs owner Mark Cuban thinks:

Doncic isn't playing on Saturday against the Atlanta Hawks since it's the second night of a back to back.

The Mavs are 34-22 on the season entering Saturday. They are in seventh place in the Western Conference standings. Doncic has appeared in 45 games for the Mavs this season. He’s averaging 29.0 points, 9.6 rebounds and 8.6 assists while shooting 46.6 percent from the field, 32.7 percent from beyond the arc and 76.5 percent from the free-throw line.

Doncic has taken the NBA world by storm, similar to how LeBron James did when he was a youngster with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The reigning Rookie of the Year said last season he was surprised how well he played during his rookie campaign and now he is an MVP candidate and the new face of the Mavs franchise in the post-Dirk Nowitzki era.

Derrick Rose is the youngest MVP in NBA history. He won the award during the 2010-11 season with the Chicago Bulls at the age of 22. Doncic turns 21 this month, and it will be fascinating to see if Luka can break Rose’s record this season or in 2020-21.
