During Wednesday's match between the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans, Mavs star Luka Doncic re-injured his thumb. Fortunately, x-ray results were negative.

Per Brad Towsend of the Dallas Morning News, Doncic acknowledged that his thumb is going to hurt every game.

Doncic has missed several games due to the thumb sprain as well as other injuries. Without their best player on the floor, the Rick Carlisle-led squad played inconsistently. From one of the top teams in the West early on, the Mavs are now seventh with a decent 38-25 record.

For the season, the 21-year old is averaging 28.5 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 8.8 assists. In their recent win over the Pelicans, Doncic had 30 points, 17 rebounds, and 10 assists, setting a new Mavs record for the most triple-doubles in team history.

While the Slovenian is putting up extraordinary numbers in just his second year in the league, analysts are still concerned about his chemistry with fellow star Kristaps Porzingis. KP himself is aware of this but believes that his team up with Doncic is going to get better.

“We're clicking more as time goes on,” Porzingis said, per Jasmyn Wimbish of CBS Sports. “He's getting a feel for me and I'm getting a feel for him and now that I'm at the 5 — it doesn't really matter 4 or 5 — but when I'm at the top of the key starting the offense, I feel more comfortable in that position. I think these last 10, 20, 30 games we've gotten a better feel for each other and I think over time it's only going to get better.”

It is worth noting that Luka and Porzingis both recorded more than 30 points and 10 rebounds each in the Mavs' win over the Pelicans,

For them to work further on their chemistry though, Luka Doncic needs to be healthy moving forward. Hopefully, his thumb injury won't turn into a serious one.
