Dallas Mavericks rookie Luka Doncic is suffering from a right hip injury sustained during the Mavs' recent game with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

Luka Doncic will miss the Mavs' Sunday night showdown with the LA Clippers due to the injury, though head coach Rick Carlisle doesn't think the issue is all that serious.

Dallas will miss the presence of their rookie sensation. Doncic is already the best player on the Mavs roster and appears to be the early favorite to win Rookie of the Year. The Slovenian teenager is averaging 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game. The wonderboy is extremely versatile and is proving all of his doubters wrong.

Sunday night will mark the first game Doncic misses in his NBA career. The decision to hold out Doncic could be linked to his most recent game. He made highlights with back-to-back blocks against LeBron James, but Friday night's affair with the Lakers was one of Doncic's worst games of the season.

Perhaps, the decision to rest the 19-year-old rookie is a way to let him catch his breath.

The Mavs will face off against three formidable Western Conference foes in the upcoming week — the Portland Trail Blazers, New Orleans Pelicans, and Houston Rockets. Doncic will see some of the better backcourts that the NBA has to offer, so he certainly needs to be ready to take back the reins and lead Dallas against their conference foes.
