Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic not only beat LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday, but he also joined “The King” in the record books.

Doncic tied James' mark for the most consecutive games (15) with at least 20 points, five assists and five rebounds. Only Michael Jordan and Russell Westbrook have more of such games in a single season.

Doncic rebounded from a poor shooting night against the Los Angeles Clippers with a 42-point performance against the Phoenix Suns. He followed it up 27 points, nine boards and 10 assists for the Mavs against the Lakers.

The 20-year-old came into Sunday's game ranked third in scoring (30.8) and second in assists (9.6) and PER (32.96).  His well-rounded play is almost unparalleled for someone his age, and he has drawn plenty of comparisons to LeBron, who also entered the league as a teenager.

James also made massive strides in his second season, upping his scoring, rebounding and assist averages while playing a league-leading 42.4 minutes per night.

However, Doncic's ability to stuff stat sheets is becoming legendary. He has more triple-doubles than any player in NBA history before the age of 21, and he is the first player since Oscar Robertson to average 30 points, 10 boards and nine assists through the first 16 games of a season.

Even LeBron had to recognize the real after their first matchup of the year:

Doncic's superb play has the Mavs riding a wave. Dallas has now won seven of their last eight and appear to be legitimate contenders in the Western Conference.

Appropriately enough, both Luka Doncic and LeBron James should be MVP contenders throughout the season.
