The hype remains uber high on Dallas Mavericks rookie Luka Doncic. The guys over at Bristol recently had a poll about who they think will win the 2018-19 NBA Rookie of the Year, and the result was overwhelmingly in favor of the Slovenian hotshot.

The poll was not done in Slovenia, but Doncic nearly got double the points received by Phoenix Suns center and No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft, Deandre Ayton. Whereas Doncic got 126 points, Ayton came in only in second place with 68. Jaren Jackson Jr. of the Memphis Grizzlies was third with 23, while Cleveland Cavaliers guard Collin Sexton was fourth with 19. Rounding out the top eight are Wendell Carter (16) of the Chicago Bulls, Marvin Bagley III (15) of the Sacramento Kings, Kevin Knox (15) of the New York Knicks, and Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks (7).

In Dallas, Doncic will have plenty of opportunities to flourish. Together with Dennis Smith Jr., the 19-year-old Doncic will man most of the duties in the Mavs’ backcourt. A talented passer and a skillful scorer, Doncic could play point guard while bumping Smith to the shooting guard role.  With DeAndre Jordan, Harrison Barnes, Wesley Matthews, and Smith, Doncic is going to have a number of options to set up on offense while keeping opposing defenses on their toes because of his ability to get buckets himself.

Doncic was selected third overall in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks but was later traded to the Mavs in exchange for Young and a future protected first-round pick.
