Luka Doncic is relied upon as the go-to option for the Dallas Mavericks with Kristaps Porzingis sidelined with an injury and that has people believing he can add some hardware to his collection. Despite outlooks changing early in the season, the Mavs' star remains the odds-on favorite to win NBA MVP this season.

To begin the season, with Porzingis expected to miss a portion of the season, Doncic began with +400 odds to win NBA MVP. After Doncic has played three games for the Mavericks this year, his odds to win the MVP award have increased to +350.

At the same time, some notable players have seen massive boosts in their chances to win the MVP trophy as well. Kyrie Irving has gone from having +6600 odds to win to +4000 after his strong start for the Brooklyn Nets.

On the other hand, Trae Young has improved his odds from +8000 to +5000 with the Atlanta Hawks. Young is averaging 34 points per game —which is the second-most in the NBA behind James Harden—to go along with his 4.5 rebounds and 9.4 assists per game.

As for Luka Doncic, the Slovenian forward has compiled 27.7 points, seven rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game for the Mavericks thus far. The one area he will need to improve upon if he hopes to win the NBA's MVP trophy is his efficiency as he's shooting a dismal 12.5 percent from three-point range to begin the season.

If Doncic is able to win MVP in his third season in the league, he would become the youngest player in NBA history to win the prestigious award.
