After winning EuroLeague MVP and being one of the most feted international prospects in NBA history, Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks waltzed to a Rookie of the Year award last season despite some stiff late-season competition from runner-up Trae Young. The Rookie of the Year race was notable for the fact that it included players that were traded for another on draft night, and ultimately the Mavs' Slovenian sensation took home the hardware at the NBA awards earlier this summer.

Recently, Doncic stumped for his hometown WNBA Rookie of the Dallas Wings, Arike Ogunbowale, to win that league’s Rookie of the Year award at season’s end. Doncic released a short video for the Wings in the Mavericks’ weight room.

However, not all WNBA teams bought Doncic’s video, believing this video to be nothing more than a scripted “swagger jack” because the two players play in the same city. The Minnesota Lynx’ Twitter feed responded vociferously to Doncic’s video.

While the Lnyx didn’t back up this bold claim with any hard facts about Doncic not visiting a Dallas Wings’ game, they did respond showing the multiple NBA players for the Minnesota Timberwolves that trekked out to watch the Lynx play, including former Rookies of the Year Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins as well as first round pick Josh Okogie:

Either way, there can be no question about Ogunbowale’s bona fides this season as the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year. The 22-year-old #5 overall pick is third in the NBA in scoring with 18.1 points per game, behind only Brittney Griner and Elena Della Donne, according to a story by Ryan Young of Yahoo Sports.
