Despite the next presidential elections still three years from now, there are already some names of potential candidates that are emerging as early as now.

One of them is Dallas Mavericks owner and billionaire businessman Mark Cuban, who is seriously contemplating on running for the highest office in U.S. government. He recently appeared on the Viewpoint podcast, hosted by former South Carolina state representative Bakari Sellers, where he admitted he is strongly considering it, but will not commit to it yet.

“Yes. Considering, yes,” Cuban said. “Ready to commit to it, no.”

Cuban also made it known that he will have a different approach to it, as the decision will be easier to make if he knows people will get behind his solutions on tax reform should he formulate one before the elections.

“If it comes down to, ‘Do I think I can win because I can convince more people to vote for me?' Then no, I won't run.”

It still remains to be seen if Cuban will pursue becoming president or not but if he does, it will be the first time for a member of the NBA community to do so. There are others who have run for local positions before and were successful like Kevin Johnson, who was the governor of Sacramento. However, for the highest position in the government, it’s unheard of so far for a former player, coach or team owner of the league.

Known for his unique ways of running an NBA team, Cuban has not been shy of breaking the mold. He has also been very vocal when talking about different issues, including the controversial ones. He does have the makings of becoming a potential candidate for the presidency, but with still a couple of years to go before the next elections, it’s very understandable why he has not committed to running yet.
