When the Dallas Mavericks acquired big man Kristaps Porzingis from the New York Knicks prior to the trade deadline, they knew what they were getting into. Porzingis is still recovering form a torn ACL he suffered last February and is yet to return to the court.

However, Mavs owner Mark Cuban has no intention of bringing the 23-year-old back this season, once again stating that the plan is to sit Porzingis for the rest of the season, even if Dallas makes the playoffs:

This comes as no surprise.

After all, the Mavericks aren't going anywhere this year anyway, so why rush Porzingis back and have him risk re-injury when you can just sit him out for the remainder of the season so he is unquestionably 100 percent by the 2019-20 campaign?

Porzingis was originally selected by the Knicks with the fourth overall pick of the 2015 NBA Draft, a draft choice that was immediately met with boos and contention from New York fans.

However, the moment Porzingis showed what he can do, he instantly won Knicks fans over, and it looked like New York had its first legitimate franchise player since drafting Patrick Ewing back in the 1980s.

But, like with most things with the Knicks over the better part of the last two decades, things fell apart, as the relationship between Porzingis and New York's front office began to sour during his second season.

The relationship became so dysfunctional that Porzingis demanded a trade earlier this month, which led to him being dealt to the Mavericks.
