The Dallas Mavericks have announced that Kristaps Porzingis will play on Wednesday against the New Orleans Pelicans after suffering a right ankle sprain in the team's previous matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

This is big news for the Mavs as Porzingis has been playing some great basketball as of late. He's starting to form into what many expected him to be in Dallas. He had stretches of playing this well in New York with the Knicks but hasn't been great in his few short years with the Mavs.

This season he's averaging 19.6 points per game while also adding 7.9 rebounds per game. He has been important to the Mavs' early-season success.

Dallas is currently 10-9 on the season. They will take off against the 6-17 Pelicans on Wednesday night. If the Mavs want to get a high seed in the playoffs, they need to take care of business against teams that are worse than them. This is an important game to have Porzingis back because the Pelicans have been playing some decent basketball as of late.

The Mavs were able to dodge a bullet with his injury. There was some fear around the league that it could have been a serious issue. He has had some injuries in the past that have kept him sidelined for most of his career.

He will need to step up on Wednesday and help his Mavs team get a win.
