The Dallas Mavericks have the fifth pick in tonight's draft, and they have been rumored to want Mo Bamba. If he is drafted by the Mavs, the Texas product is going to become a fan favorite instantly and Dirk Nowitzki would have a part in it.

During his workout with the Mavs, Bamba jokingly told Nowitzki that the future Hall of Famer has to play three more years if the Mavericks took him, and Nowitzki pinky swore that he would.

Nowitzki is getting ready for this upcoming season but anything after that isn't guaranteed. He has dealt with injuries the last few years and his stats have gone downhill too. Last year, he only averaged 12 points per game and that number probably won't be improved on this year.

Maybe Bamba is exactly what Nowitzki needs to hit a fountain of youth. Even if he doesn't have a ton of success on the court, he can teach Bamba how to be a true pro on and off the court.

Nowitzki could teach Bamba some of his moves but more importantly, the latter could learn how to become the face of the franchise in Dallas. If Bamba is drafted by the Mavericks, he, along with Dennis Smith Jr., would be expected to take the reigns from Nowitzki and usher in the next era of Mavericks basketball.

The draft kicks off at 7 PM Eastern on ESPN.
