The Dallas Mavericks, owned by Mark Cuban, were upset by the Atlanta Hawks in a tight game on Saturday night. The Mavs dropped the game 111-107, as it came down to the wire.

However, it didn't end without controversy.

There was a very confusing sequence towards the end of the game.  There was a goaltending call with under 10 seconds left in the contest. However,  a lot went along with that call.

This sequence led to a Twitter rant by Mark Cuban, the owner of the Mavericks.

Mark Cuban called out the refs in the rant. Not only did he bring up the game from tonight, but pointed out that he felt it's been a problem for a while. Tonight just seemed to push him over the edge.

The “NBA Official” official account responded, explaining the call.

So the argument for the refs is pretty simple. It was an inadvertent whistle. That inadvertent whistle was on the goaltending call. Mark Cuban might not like it, but that's a basic reality.

Instead, it was called a block. Since John Collins was already in his shooting motion when the ref blew that whistle though, it was deemed continuation. This meant that whatever happened to the ball after the whistle, counted. And what happened was it went in the basket, resulting in two points. Mark Cuban did not accept that.

This all sounds very confusing, but technically it is by the rules. At the same time, you could see Cuban's argument. There was a whistle for goaltending, but somehow a shot that happened after the supposed goaltending occurred still counted.

Even if that is in the rules, it's not hard to understand why Mark Cuban might be upset that the basket still counts against his team.

However, there's nothing the Mavericks can do about it. The ruling is final and the officials have proof that they were in the right, at least by the rule book. Mark Cuban has to live with that.

Expect a pretty hefty fine to be coming to Mark Cuban after his Twitter rant though. The news on this story isn't over just yet.
