Right before tipoff of their New Year's Eve game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Kristaps Porzingis was pulled out of the line up due to right knee soreness. After the game, Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle shared that there is no timetable for the big man's return per Mavs broadcaster Mark Followill.

The absence marked just Kristaps Porzingis' second missed game of the 2019-20 season. The Mavs' decision to let him sit out initially appeared to be a precautionary measure. After all, Porzingis played in both legs of the Mavs’ back-to-back on Saturday and Sunday.

But given Rick Carlisle's update, it appears that Porzingis' knee might be a serious issue. Mavs fans would have to stay tuned for updates with regard to The Unicorn's health status. Maxi Kleber took his spot in the starting five. As such, expect Carlisle to field him with Luka Doncic and the rest up until Porzingis returns.

In his first year with the Mavs, the 24-year-old Latvian is putting up  17.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per contest — on pace to set a new career-high on the glass.

The Mavs currently sport a 21-12 record for fifth in the West. Before the 2019-20 season started, coach Carlisle shared that their goal for this year is to simply make the playoffs. But with the way the team is performing, they might end up not just qualifying for the postseason for the first time since the 2015-16 season, but making a deep run as well.

The Mavs will start their six-game homestand on Thursday against the Brooklyn Nets. Hopefully, Porzingis will be up and ready to help his team.
