Kristaps Porzingis won't play for the Dallas Mavericks this season, but that's not going to stop Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle from getting to know his new star player and figuring out how he's going to use the talented 7-footer next season.

Carlisle and Porzingis had a one-on-one film session on Friday where Carlisle showed KP how the Mavs intend to utilize him on offense next season alongside Luka Doncic. Porzingis, who is recovering from a torn ACL he suffered last season with the New York Knicks, was very engaged during the film session, according to Carlisle.

“It's important to have a vision of the direction that you're going to be going when you're in a rehab situation like him, so you can get your mind focused on the kind of movements that are going to be required,” Carlisle said, via Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News. “It was a very good meeting. I asked him for some feedback and we had good discussions.

“So I think we have a good plan. It's just going to be the rate at which he can increase his court activity. He's doing great with the rehab, feels great, and so (there's) a lot of positive signs.”

After the rocky relationship Porzingis had with the Knicks, the Mavs are clearly doing everything they can to make the Latvian feel comfortable in Dallas.

Kristaps Porzingis becomes a restricted free agent in the summer, but all signs point toward him signing a long-term deal with the Mavs.
