Rick Carlisle thinks it's only fitting that the Dallas Mavericks honor legend Dirk Nowitzki this season with his signature jumper logo planted on the hardwood at American Airlines Center:

“Awesome,” Carlisle said per Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News. “It’s a fitting tribute to a guy who stood for all the right things for the organization and the city.

“It will be an enduring symbol of greatness and integrity and humility. And that’s a great message for people in our city, our organization and what we stand for. And it’s nice for him, too.”

There's no doubt that Nowitzki will eventually see his No. 41 jersey raised to the rafters. He will also surely get his own statue in Dallas. Nevertheless, having his logo on the AAC floor all season long is a great start for the Mavs to pay their tributes to the man who spent his entire 21-year career with the franchise.

The Mavs should really give Nowitzki everything he wants, and they probably will. The German legend carried the organization for over two decades and led them to their lone NBA championship in 2011.

There have been rumblings that the Mavs will eventually bring him on for a front-office role in the future. There were even talks that he might become part of ownership someday. Nevertheless, whatever happens, the Mavs and Dirk will always be synonymous with each other.

The Mavs are ushering in a new era led by the international star tandem of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis. The reigning Rookie of the Year is looking to launch himself into superstardom in Year 2, while the Latvian Unicorn looks to regain the All-Star form he once had prior to his ACL injury.
