Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle is one of the most respected figures in the NBA today. The Mavs veteran leader typically gives quite the insightful perspective when asked about controversial issues — whether it be about basketball or otherwise.

This time around, Carlisle was asked about former NBA guard Delonte West, who most recently was seen in several disturbing videos that have surfaced on social media.

Because this is not the first time that West has been involved in such a situation, Carlisle's reaction to seeing these videos hardly comes as a surprise. Not only is West a former NBA player that impressed at both the collegiate and professional levels, but he was coached by Carlisle during his time as a member of the Mavs.

Rick Carlisle was not the only former coach of West to release a statement regarding his latest incident. Longtime Saint Joseph's Hawks head coach Phil Martelli, who guided West at the collegiate level, tweeted about those attempting to help the former NBA guard — who is quite clearly suffering from a serious mental illness.

“Over the past several hours I have talked with many who are willing to help – please read and embrace Jameer’s wisdom – we are reaching out to our basketball network to get the professional help Delonte needs,” Martelli tweeted. “This is so very painful.”
Delonte West's lengthy NBA tenure came to an end as a member of the Mavs back in the 2011-12 season. In addition to suiting up for Dallas, he also played for the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers and Seattle Supersonics.
