The Dallas Mavericks are set to host the Phoenix Suns in their final home game of the 2018-19 NBA season. Head coach Rick Carlisle is taking advantage of every opportunity he has to offer up praise for forward Dirk Nowitzki.

Nowitzki is seemingly set to retire at the end of this season. According to James Herbert of CBS Sports, Carlisle is convinced there will never be another like him:

I've been in teams with superstars for decades. I can categorically say that Dirk is cut out of a different cloth. I can also say with the utmost confidence that we will never, ever see a guy in the NBA game quite like him, in terms of his humility, loyalty and all-out level of greatness. The interesting thing about Dirk is the humility and loyalty make it easy to marginalize certain parts of his game and certain huge contributions that he's made to the game. And at the end of the day, that's what makes him the most special.

There is certainly plenty of truth to Carlisle's comments. He has seen his fair share of talent throughout the course of his NBA career as both a player and a coach. It is safe to say that Nowitzki's path to the NBA from overseas is one that had not been taken by many players prior to his arrival. Even fewer were able to enjoy a fair amount of success from it.

Nowitzki's talent and professionalism both on and off the court have made him a staple in the Dallas community. There is no question that he has long established himself as the greatest player in franchise history. When he retires, he will also be hailed as one of the greatest power forwards in NBA history.
