Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle thinks comparing Kristaps Porzingis to Mavs legend Dirk Nowitzki is unfair to both men.

Because Porzingis is 7-feet and can shoot the ball well, he has drawn comparisons to Nowitzki ever since he entered the NBA back in 2015.

Carlisle, however, believes Porzingis is “a different kind of player” than Nowitzki.

“I don't want to go there and say he's the next Dirk,” Carlisle told ESPN Dallas 103.3. “Because he's not, he's a different kind of player, and people are going to see that. He's very much his own man.

“Labeling some guy as the next Dirk is not fair to that guy, and it's not fair to Dirk either. And Porzingis is going to present himself as a different kind of player. And it's not going to be a bad thing at all.”

Kristaps Porzingis is expected to play next season for the Mavs. KP has fully recovered from the ACL injury he suffered last season with the New York Knicks.

Porzingis has career averages of 17.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists while shooting 43.7 percent from the field, 36.1 percent from beyond the arc and 80.4 percent from the free-throw line. Mavs fans can't wait to see KP and Luka Doncic play together in 2019-20.
