Rick Carlisle says ‘there’s a chance’ for Kostas Antetokounmpo to play against Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bucks

Kostas Antetokounmpo could be making his NBA debut for the Dallas Mavericks on Monday and his first bucket could be against his older brother, Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Mavericks called up the 21-year-old forward from the G League affiliate Texas Legends on Friday. Mavs coach Rick Carlisle noted “there’s a chance” that Kostas will play against the Bucks, per Dwain Price of Mavs.com.

“We’ll see how things go with all of that, but to be in uniform and be on the same floor — even if it’s just in warmups — I’m sure there will be many photographers hovering to get some pics of that, and that’ll be great,” Carlisle said. “And in the game, who knows.

“Maybe there’s a chance to play him. We’ll see.”

Kostas has held his own since being deemed as “Mr. Irrelevant” in the 2018 NBA Draft, taken with the final pick. In 27 games with the Legends this season, he is averaging 9.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks while shooting 50.8 percent from the field in 23.9 minutes per game. His MVP candidate sibling also spoke on the pending matchup.

“I’m really excited,” Giannis told Matt Velazquez of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “He’s my brother, my little brother. He’s going to be in Milwaukee … and it’s going to be fun to have him around; he hasn’t seen my mom for a while now. … I think this is a good opportunity to show what he’s capable of. Hopefully in the game on Monday I can have some minutes against him.

If all goes well, it should be a debut to remember for the Antetokounmpo family.
