Following Thursday night's 123-111 victory against the Brooklyn Nets, the Dallas Mavericks were able to improve their home record to 10-7. Things have not exactly been smooth sailing on their home floor this season which is something Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle recently addressed.

“When you’re not playing your best at home, you look at what the reasons might be,” he said, via Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News. “There are a different set of distractions when you play at home.”

Coach Carlisle went on to belabor his point, saying that playing at home sometimes presents a false pretense of having an easier time, as opposed to the challenges of playing on the road.

“I think inherently there’s a feeling that you should walk out on the floor with the crowd behind you and stuff and that things just kind of go your way. That’s not how it works in the league. It requires an even greater edge on a lot of levels because teams on the road are very focused and we’re a good example of that.”

According to Carlisle, it actually works the other way around. In his mind, playing at home requires an ever greater effort on the side of the home team. Obviously, this is something he wants his team to take to heart.

The Mavs are in the midst of an extended six-game homestand. They will be back in action on Saturday when they host the Charlotte Hornets, as they hope to further improve their home record.
