Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle is currently in Slovenia with Mavs star Luka Doncic. Mavs big man Dwight Powell and assistant Jamahl Mosley are also in Slovenia as well. Doncic took two weeks off after the season to rest, but has been back in the gym training.

Carlisle wants Doncic to get in the best shape of his life this summer. The Mavs are building their franchise around Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis in the post-Dirk Nowitzki era.

“The No. 1 thing is he needs to get into the best shape of his life, which he knows,” Carlisle said, via Mike Fisher of 247sports. “And develop in all areas of his game. Going into his second year, he's obviously going to be one of our best players an one of our most important players.

“Every year his level of responsibility will increase, so it is important to have a good summer and good preparation.”

Doncic had a stellar rookie season for the Mavs and will probably win the 2019 Rookie of the Year award.

The 20-year-old averaged 21.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.0 assists in 72 games while shooting 42.7 percent from the field, 32.7 percent from beyond the arc and 71.3 percent from the free-throw line.

Mavs fans can't wait to see how much better Doncic is going to be in his second year in the league.
