The Dallas Mavericks are off to a slow start this season but were able to get back in the win column after their most recent victory against the Miami Heat. However, Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle still won't rest on his laurels just yet and even blasted his team for failing to show up in all of their games, per ESPN‘s Tim MacMahon.

Heading to the matchup with a 1-3 record, the Mavs were in danger of finding themselves buried in a deep hole if they couldn't carve out a win in their fifth game of the season. Mavericks star Luka Doncic delivered for his team and led with 27 points, 15 rebounds, and seven assists while veteran swingman Tim Hardaway added 18 points, two rebounds, and three assists for the Mavs.

The Heat continued to struggle as their veteran leader in Jimmy Butler had an off night and was only limited to tally two points, three rebounds, and two assists. Bam Adebayo led his squad with a double-double performance of 19 points and 11 rebounds which wasn't enough for his team to cut down the deficit.

Despite a 30-point outburst by the Heat in the final frame, the Mavs were still able to escape with a 93-83 victory and ultimately improved to a 2-3 record. After the loss, the Miami-based squad slid to an identical win-loss tally as well.

Rick Carlisle and the Mavs will aim to get a winning streak going and snag their third victory of the season as they face the lowly Chicago Bulls on Jan. 3.
