The Dallas Mavericks are considered as one of the most promising teams in the league. However, NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal believes that the Mavs are still a few players away from establishing themselves as one of the top teams in the league.

Dallas has a bright future ahead of them with Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis leading the team. O'Neal said that the current Mavs roster is enough to win games and make the playoffs, but he emphasized that they need at least two more key pieces to get past the top contenders in the Western Conference.

“Will they win games and make the playoffs? Definitely,” Shaq said of the Mavericks, via Dwain Price of Mavs.com. “But you still got to go through Houston, Golden State, and New Orleans is coming on strong. And the Lakers, of course. But I still think the Mavs need about two more pieces.”

The Mavericks might address a big hole on their roster in free agency, as they are currently being linked to Kemba Walker. The Charlotte Hornets guard will become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and reports indicate that the Mavs will be very aggressive in pursuing the All-Star in free agency.

It remains to be seen if Dallas can add another star this offseason. However, should they fail, there's still reason to be optimistic with Doncic and KP leading the way.
