When talking about the NBA title contenders and pretenders, the Dallas Mavericks often fall on the latter category. While the Mavs have a superstar in Luka Doncic, it just seems they are not on par with the top dogs in the Eastern and Western Conference.
However, by the looks of it, the Mavs are slowly but surely erasing that notion.
Sure they are a one-star team, but they have been continuously showing their depth that should make the other playoff contenders worried. Take for example their latest win against the Boston Celtics. After trailing by as much as 13 points in the game, they came back to take the 95-93 victory.
In fact with that latest win, the Mavs now lead the NBA in double-digit comebacks this 2021-22 with 14. They broke a three-way tie with the top dogs of the East and West, the Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns.

That should be a major area of concern for other teams, especially if they face the Mavs in the playoffs. The number shows that this is a team that doesn't easily give up, and no one wants that kind of opponent, especially in high-pressure situations like the postseason.
Having that never-say-die mentality is perfect for the playoffs, and the Mavs have that.
Of course it remains to be seen if the Mavs can maintain their momentum as Comeback Kings. After all, they have been bounced in the first round of the postseason for the past two years. However, it is certainly looking like a different Dallas squad this time around, with head coach Jason Kidd leading at the helm and Luka Doncic playing at a different level.
