Dallas Mavericks phenom Luka Doncic took the league by storm last year, impressing right out of the gates and winning the Rookie of the Year award. Doncic immediately played like a savvy veteran, despite being only 19 years old for the first half of the season. He averaged 21.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and six assists a game. Mavs fans immediately began envisioning a future MVP candidate. This raises the question of how high the Slovenian forwards ceiling actually is.

According to sportswriter Zach Lowe, Doncic will decide on how high his ceiling goes by monitoring his weight. On Bill Simmons' podcast, Lowe claimed it is key that Doncic loses a few pounds.

“What's the ceiling? Well to me the ceiling is let's see if he loses 15 pounds or whatever he needs to lose or he changes his body, changes his diet. Maybe that unlocks an extra ceiling we didn't know existed.”

Lowe might have a point. Doncic was an offensive powerhouse last season but struggled on the defensive end. The Mavs point forward looked a step slow while guarding wings and struggled to stay in front of faster guards on switches.

If Doncic drops a few pounds and increases his mobility, it wouldn't be a shock to see him become a very solid two way player in the league. Between him and Kristaps Porzingis, the Mavs could make a lot of noise in the Western Conference.
