The Dallas Mavericks have an incredibly bright future with Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis leading the way. Doncic is already a superstar for the Mavs in his second season in the NBA, while Porzingis regained his All-Star form in 2019-20 after missing the entire 2018-19 campaign recovering from an ACL tear.

Luka was averaging 28.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 8.7 assists before the season was suspended due to COVID-19. Porzingis, meanwhile, was putting up 19.2 points and 9.5 rebounds as Doncic’s partner in crime. The Mavs were in seventh place in the rugged Western Conference standings and appeared on their way to making the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

To ensure the franchise continues to bolster the roster, Mavs general manager Donnie Nelson should consider trading for Chicago Bulls small forward Otto Porter this offseason. Otto is the perfect 3-and-D swingman to pair alongside Doncic and Porzingis. Porter is a career 40.4 percent shooter from beyond the arc.

The Bulls may be willing to trade Porter this offseason since he has a player option for next season worth $28.5 million and he is 100 percent going to pick it up after only appearing in 14 games for the Bulls this season due to injury. The former Washington Wizard averaged 11.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists for Chicago and shot 44.3 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from 3.

When he's healthy, Porter is good for 17 to 20 points a night while defending the opposing team's best perimeter player. For the most part, Dallas would ask Porter to stretch the floor with his 3-point shooting and make himself available to Doncic and Porzingis when the two stars are commanding double-teams in the post.

Moreover, Porter's ability to defend positions one through four effectively would be huge for the Mavs since the more stout defenders you can throw at guys such as LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, Damian Lillard and James Harden, the better.

Otto Porter has career NBA averages of 11.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 413 games with the Wizards and Bulls. The Bulls will likely want a first-round pick in return for the swingman.
