Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle expects Seth Curry to start at shooting guard this season, Mavs.com's Earl K. Sneed reports.

Curry started 42 of the 70 games he played in his first season in Dallas last season. He had a breakout year with the Mavs, as he averaged 12.8 points in 29 minutes per game.

Seth Curry started for the Mavs in their 106-104 win over the Milwaukee Bucks in their preseason opener. He played 12 minutes, scoring eight points with two rebounds and hit his only 3-point attempt.

The Mavs went with a smaller starting lineup against the Bucks. Curry started at shooting guard alongside rookie point guard Dennis Smith Jr., while Dirk Nowitzki played center, Harrison Barnes was at power forward, and Wes Matthews was the small forward. Center Nerlens Noel notably came off the bench.

Curry shot 42.5 percent on 3-pointers last season and will help space the floor for the Mavs in what could be their smaller, more offensive-minded starting lineup this season.

Meanwhile, he was one of the more capable defenders among the Mavs' regular rotation players last season per defensive rating, so he should also be an asset on that end of the floor.
