The Dallas Mavericks reportedly believed they had a deal in place to acquire Danny Green had the Los Angeles Lakers traded for Marcus Morris, according to Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News. The Los Angeles Clippers wound up trading for Morris, so Green will be staying with the Lakers and the Mavs won't be getting another shooter around Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis.

The Lakers are 38-11 on the season in their first year with the Anthony Davis-LeBron James pairing. After failing to make a splash before the deadline, the Purple and Gold are expected to take a look at the players in the buyout market.

Green is arguably the best shooter the Lakers have around LeBron and Davis. It wouldn’t have made sense for them to trade the sharpshooter away, as he is averaging 8.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists on the season while shooting 41.7 percent from the field, 37.2 percent from beyond the arc and 70.0 percent from the free-throw line.

The Mavs are 31-20 on the season and in seventh place in the Western Conference standings. Dallas is looking to make the playoffs this season for the first time since 2016.
