The Dallas Mavericks are interested in trading for Washington Wizards small forward Otto Porter, according to Michael Scotto of The Atheltic.

The Wizards could be open for business now that All-Star point guard John Wall is out for the year due to a left heel injury which will require season-ending surgery.

Otto Porter signed a lucrative four-year, $106.5 million deal with the Wizards in the summer of 2017. The swingman has been dealing with a knee injury which has forced him to miss the last 10 games for Washington.

In 25 games this year for the Wizards, Porter is averaging 11.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 48.7 percent from the field, 36.8 percent from beyond the arc and 78.1 percent from the free-throw line.

The Mavs are 17-19 on the year. Otto Porter would be an immediate upgrade over Wesley Matthews at the small forward position. Porter is a better perimeter shooter than Matthews and he can put the ball on the floor and create his own shot off the dribble.

One would surmise that to acquire Porter, the Mavs would need to part ways with Matthews and his $18.62 million salary. Matthews becomes a free agent after this season, so Washington might have interest in trading for him since his contract comes off the books once this year ends.
