The offseason is underway for the Dallas Mavericks. Now that they have a taste of success in the NBA playoffs, they have to figure out how to maximize the talent they have around Luka Doncic. The Mavs have plenty of options.

There are a lot of trades the Mavs could make this offseason. They also have the 26th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. Several big-name players, namely Utah Jazz stars Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, who could be obtained via trade. Gobert seems most likely to be dealt and the Mavs have recently been linked to him.

However, Gobert coming to Dallas doesn't seem like a strong possibility. According to NBA reporter Marc Stein, the Mavs are not expected to engage the Jazz with trade talks about Gobert.

The Mavs would likely be a better team with one of the NBA's best defenders. Gobert would also be a strong lob threat because of his size. He also led the league in rebounds, which would be helpful for a Mavs team that got demolished on the glass by Kevon Looney in the Western Conference Finals.

The concern with trading for Gobert, though, would be his lackluster record in the playoffs, massive contract and clash with how the Mavs play. Dallas showed a willingness to switch on defense with every position, which has not been Gobert's M.O. He is used to playing closer to the hoop to deter close shots.

Mitchell makes more sense for the Mavs but trading for him would be much harder. They may need to look elsewhere for upgrades.
