Kristaps Porzingis reportedly plans to sign a long-term deal with the Dallas Mavericks as soon as possible and train with Mavs budding star Luka Doncic over the summer, according to Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News.

All signs point toward the Mavs and Porzingis coming to terms on a five-year deal once free agency starts on June 30. Dallas envisions Porzingis and Doncic as being Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki 2.0.

Before he tore his ACL with the New York Knicks during the 2017-18 season, Porzingis was averaging 22.7 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists while shooting 43.9 percent from the field, 39.5 percent from beyond the arc and 79.3 percent from the free-throw line. The Mavs can't wait to see how lethal Porzingis is going to be playing next to Doncic, who won the 2019 Rookie of the Year award.

Luka averaged 21.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.0 assists while shooting 42.7 percent from the field, 32.7 percent from beyond the arc and 71.3 percent from the free-throw line. The Mavs’ floor general recorded 24 double-doubles and eight triple-doubles. One can imagine how deadly Dallas' pick-and-roll/pop plays are going to be with Doncic and Porzingis.

The Mavs have to love the fact that Porzingis and Doncic are already forging a strong relationship. The franchise is going to go as far as the two youngsters can take them in the post-Nowitzki era.
