The Charlotte Hornets have waived small forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and multiple reports said he is expected to sign with the Dallas Mavericks. However, according to Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning news, Kidd-Gilchrist signing with the Mavs is not a certainty.

It is worth noting that the Mavs showed interest in trading for MKG before the trade deadline. However, it looks like talks didn't go deep. The same goes for the team's attempt for Toronto Raptors forward Rondae-Hollis Jefferson, as Dallas ended up standing pat as the Feb. 6 deadline passed.

The Mavs are in search for a player who can improve their defense, and while Kidd-Gilchrist has a lot to work on offensively, he can definitely shore up the team's defense off the bench.

Kidd-Gilchrist has career averages of 8.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists. He was the second overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft out of Kentucky.

The Mavs are 32-21 on the season and in seventh place in the Western Conference standings. They are well poised to make the postseason for the first time since 2016.

With that said, Mark Cuban and Co. might very well be motivated to bolster their roster and add a player who can increase their chances of making a deep playoff run.
