The Dallas Mavericks are looking to make moves this week, and they could be willing to part with the No. 18 overall pick in Wednesday's NBA Draft. One popular deal being discussed around the league involves the Los Angeles Clippers and perennial Sixth Man of the Year candidate Lou Williams.

Several teams are exploring making a trade with the Mavs involving this pick, with the Clippers and Lou Williams being a popular choice around the league as a potential trade partner

Williams averaged 18.2 points per game on .418/.352/.861 shooting splits in 2019-20 — his 14th season. However, he's a defensive liability, which continues to be an annual issue in the playoffs.

The Mavs are looking for more guard help to take pressure off Luka Doncic, and Williams could fit the bill. The veteran combo guard has chops as a pick-and-roll player and could carry the offense against second units, plus offer a decent spot-up option when paired with Doncic.

Williams, 33, is entering the final year of his contract and is due to earn $8 million in 2020-21.

Dallas is looking to take another step toward championship contention and find complimentary playmakers to put alongside Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis. The front office is reportedly willing to trade anything besides Doncic and Porzingis in its pursuit of talent.

The Mavs also own the No. 31 pick in the draft, which gives them another asset to use in a potential move

Dallas also wants to reserve future cap space for a run at Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo next offseason, or another star in the potentially stacked 2021 class of free agency. Mark Cuban is always aggressive when trying to make moves, and the Mavs will do what they can to bolster their roster.
