It’s summer again, which means it’s time for the Mavericks to go on the hunt for another free-agent center.

Dallas struck out recently with attempting to acquire big men DeAndre Jordan and Dwight Howard. They reportedly will meet with unrestricted free agent Hassan Whiteside early in the free agency period.

Whiteside is expected to boast a maximum contract worth somewhere around $94 million over four years. He’s averaged 13.3 points, 11. 1 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per game over two seasons with the Miami Heat after going 33rd overall to the Kings in the 2010 draft.

The big man suffered a season-ending knee injury in the Heat’s playoff loss against the Raptors this year, and has faced questions about his ability to defend and block in the post. According to MacMahon, the Trail Blazers are also attempting to bring in Whiteside to join bigs Mason Plume, Ed Davis, Meyers Leonard and Noah Vonleh.

Unable to make it past the first round of the playoffs since clutching a championship in 2011, Dallas is undoubtedly looking to surround Dirk Nowitzki with surefire talent in his final years in the league.
