One month is an entire epoch in internet years, but things of the past can still be pretty fascinating. Just take for example this video from just a little over a month ago, showing Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki doing his own version of “The Shammgod” during a shoot-around before a road game against the Washington Wizards on Nov. 7.

For the uninitiated, the Shammgod is a variety of a crossover dribble in which a player throws the ball in front of him then pulls the ball across his body with his other hand. It’s an effective maneuver to free oneself off of a defender, but it’s also one of the hardest to pull off, considering the excellent timing and the quickness this move requires.

It was also a move many thought to be invented by former Providence Friar guard God Shammgod, who is now an assistant coach for the Mavericks. Perhaps, Nowitzki has been seeing this type of crossover being taught at times by Shammgod, so maybe he just decided to give it a try himself.

As expected, Nowitzki’s version was probably the most awkward thing you’ll see today, but hey, at least he's improving. Here’s the German legendary baller giving it a try last year.

Let’s just hope Nowitzki won’t try to do this in a game. Check that. I want to see him do it at least once before he retires.
