With the Dallas Mavericks currently 2-14 to begin the 2017-18 NBA season, it will be another long year during the team's rebuilding process. However, basketball fans can continue to watch and enjoy the final chapters of Dirk Nowitzki's career.

In his 20th season, the 39-year-old is still averaging 10.5 points and 5.4 rebounds in 24.3 minutes per game. Against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Nowitzki moved into eighth all-time in field goals made with 10,754 according to NBA:

As Nowitzki is battling Father Time, he is one of the few remaining players most basketball fans grew up watching. While fans wish he was on a competitive team at this stage of his career, Nowitzki is a dying breed in today's league. As players are forming super teams, Nowitzki is tied with Kobe Bryant for most seasons with one team (20).

For Nowitzki, it is unclear how much longer he will play. In a time when centers and power forwards are taking three-pointers on a regular basis, he is a pioneer and is widely considered the best international player of all time in NBA history.

Nowitzki now chases Elvin Hayes, who is currently seventh all-time with 10,976 field goals made.
