Dorian Finney-Smith's jumper is a swing factor for the Dallas Mavericks.

If he's able to build on the minor progress he made from beyond the arc last season, the Mavericks will have the 3-and-D wing needed to make life at least somewhat difficult on the likes of LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, and Paul George in the Western Conference. But if the rising fourth-year pro tops out as a below-average perimeter shooter, Dallas will be left searching to find one of the most coveted player archetypes in the NBA. Unfortunately for the Mavericks, Finney-Smith's performance at a recent youth camp suggests the former possibility is the one more likely to come to fruition.

A camper defeated Finney-Smith in a casual game of knockout on Thursday, much to the delight of youngsters cheering against the Mavericks wing.

Finney-Smith, in case you were wondering, shot a career-low 70.9 percent from the free throw line last season, and is a career 72.6 percent free-throw shooter.

The 6-foot-8, 220-pounder enjoyed the best season of his career in 2018-19, averaging 7.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game while shooting 43.2 percent from the field – all personal bests. A restricted free agent this summer, Finney-Smith returned to Dallas on a three-year, $12 million contract, and is poised to compete for playing time on the wing with Justin Jackson and Tim Hardaway Jr.
