Dallas Mavericks veteran point guard J.J. Barea had a minimal role to play on Tuesday, as the Mavs took on the Los Angeles Clippers at the American Airlines Center. The 35-year-old logged only eight minutes, accounting for three points, two rebounds, and two assists, as he saw his team fall to Kawhi Leonard and company, 110-107.
This has pretty much been the theme for Barea all season long, as he has spent majority of his time on the bench as the third-string point guard. Nevertheless, the Mavs see him as a significant part of the team both on and off the floor. The team even considers him to be their own John Wick — or in their own words, Juan Wick.

J.J. stands for Jose Juan, thus the team's hilarious play on words, likening Barea to the popular silver screen character played by none other than Hollywood superstar Keanu Reeves. It is also worth noting that Barea's teammate, Boban Marjanovic, did have a cameo in the recently released third installment of the John Wick series, and his scenes in the parody above are actually legitimate.
Barea is currently on a one-year deal with the Mavs, which expires this summer. There is no word as of yet if the team has any intentions of renewing his deal, or if they will allow the 5-foot-10 guard to walk away as a free agent. There's also the potential for retirement.
This season, Barea is averaging 8.7 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists in 15.0 minutes off the Dallas bench.
