Dallas Mavericks point guard J.J. Barea suffered an injury against the Minnesota Timberwolves and was helped to the locker room.

Barea scored a layup on Timberwolves point guard Jeff Teague, but then landed awkwardly on his right foot. The scoring guard immediately starting grabbing at his right foot near the Achilles area.

The Mavs defeated the Timberwolves by a final score of 119-115. J.J. Barea was a big reason why Dallas was able to win this game on the road. The feisty guard scored 16 points in 22 minutes while shooting 7-of-14 from the field, 1-of-4 from beyond the arc and 1-of-1 from the free-throw line.

Barea also had seven assists and was destroying Timberwolves backup point guard Tyus Jones all night long. We have to hope that Barea didn't tear his Achilles because that would be a huge loss for a Mavs team that is already playing without second-year point guard Dennis Smith Jr.

Dallas did say after the game that J.J. Barea has a right lower leg injury, but that's all they revealed.

Barea is averaging 10.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists on the season. His toughness on the both ends of the court isn't something you can measure in stats. Hopefully, the guard avoided a serious injury.
