Dennis Smith Jr. and Luka Doncic are the future of the Dallas Mavericks. Smith is coming off an impressive rookie year and Doncic is showing signs of a potential superstar in the preseason. The two Mavs are playing well together on the court, but that doesn't mean Doncic won't roast his point guard from time to time.

Smith put Doncic on his Facebook Live and asked him to shout out Fayetteville — Smith's hometown. Rather than shouting out Smith's old stomping grounds, Doncic pointed out that only seven people were tuning into Smith's Facebook Live.

The future of the Mavs is in the hands of Doncic and Smith. Dirk Nowitzki is in the twilight of his career, DeAndre Jordan is only in Dallas on a one year deal, and Harrison Barnes' contract is up after the 2019-20 season.

The Mavs are prepared to build the foundation of the team around the dynamic pairing of Smith and Doncic. Smith is a bouncy point guard with heaps of offensive talent.

Doncic, on the other hand, doesn't really have a position. He has the ballhandling skills to play point guard, but the Mavs seem intent on using Doncic as a power forward in small-ball lineups. I wouldn't even be surprised if they experiment with him at the 5 in a very small, guard-oriented lineup.

Dallas may not compete for a playoff spot right away, but the future is bright with Smith and Doncic leading the way.
