The Dallas Mavericks are currently in the midst of the epitome of a transition as rookie point guard Luka Doncic continues to shine on the NBA stage.

With Doncic taking the league by storm in his first season on United States soil, Mavs legend Dirk Nowitzki appears primed to hang up his sneaker after the conclusion of the 2018-19 campaign.

As a result, Doncic has continued to praise one of his idols all season long, with this week not being any different.

On Tuesday, Doncic admitted that though it will be tough, it wouldn't be impossible to surpass Nowitzki on the NBA's all-time scoring list.

Of course, the heralded German big man just recently surpassed another legend in former Los Angeles Lakers center Wilt Chamberlain for sixth on the all-time list.

“One of his real legacies is gonna be how he helped this game evolve to what it is today,” Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle recently said of Nowitzki, via Newsday. “In the '90s and early 2000s, there was a real crisis. Scoring was down. The way Dirk approached the game helped … nudge the game along and open up space. Eventually the value of the 3-point shot to open up space became a reality. And so today, you don't hear anybody talking about how there's not enough scoring or the game's not exciting.”

As it stands today, the 40-year-old big man has scored a whopping 31,424 career points over the course of 1,510 NBA games played. Nowitzki has, of course, spent his entire 21-year NBA career with the Mavs.
