Wednesday night gave NBA fans a matchup between two of the brightest young stars in the entire league as the Dallas Mavericks faced off against the New Orleans Pelicans. The Luka Doncic-Zion Williamson battle is the first of its kind, and the Mavs star has already done his best to make it a show.

In the middle of the first quarter, Williamson was matched up with Doncic on the perimeter. The Slovenian star took advantage with a quick stepback triple with Williamson's hand in his face.

Doncic's effort didn't end there, however, as the second-year Mavs guard would then deny an outlet pass intended for Williamson resulting in a Pelicans turnover.

After missing the first half of the season with an injury, Zion Williamson has put the league on notice in his first 16 games. The 2019 No. 1 overall pick is putting up 24.2 points and 6.9 rebounds per game while shooting 58.8 percent for the Pelicans.

As for Luka Doncic, the 21-year-old is averaging 28.5 points, 9.3 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game for a Mavs squad currently in the seventh seed in the Western Conference.
