ClutchPoints recently spoke with Austin J. Mills, a popular sportscaster and content creator known for his work with NBA Entertainment Inc.

Mills was born on December 6th 1994 and spent his younger years in Beverly Hills, California. Basketball truly is in his DNA, as his father Adam used to be a prospect in his playing days at the University Of Texas. The older Mills was influential in molding his son’s on-court skills, teaching him to “outwork everyone.”

In terms of the professional hardwood, Mills idolized legendary point guard Steve Nash even though he was a diehard Lakers fan. Of course, Kobe Bryant was right there too.

“Steve Nash & Kobe were my two biggest [idols]. Nash was relatable for me. He made everyone around him better. Not the most athletic player but always the smartest. Kobe was always inspiring for his work ethic and passion. Throughout my career, he always pushed me to keep striving.”

While playing basketball at Beverly Hills High School, Mills and his buddies founded JAM Events, an event planning company.

In his college years, Mills played as a point guard for the Baylor Bears. He started to gain fame by taping his trick shot and long-distance buckets that are seemingly impossible to make. The young point guard went viral.

“I had no idea they would go viral. I had some friends visit me at college and we were messing around. Next thing I know, my videos were going crazy!”

As Mills built up his social media platform, the NBA reached out to him and asked to work together. That was the moment he knew he wanted to build this into his career.

Another breakthrough in Mills’ basketball career came when he interviewed Lonzo Ball prior to the 2017 NBA Draft.

“I was hosting the red carpet at the NBA Draft. It has always easy for me to connect with guys because I played and I think that makes them comfortable.”

Since then, Mills has worked number of NBA stars and gained a lot of friends in the league. He considers Chandler Parsons, Royce O’Neale, Donovan Mitchell, Domantas Sabonis, and Taurean Prince as part of his inner circle.

Austin's main goal is to become a TV host, but he has already accomplished a lot in the basketball world and appreciates the experiences that have come along the way.

“My goal is to continue to progress in the sports world and more into the entertainment world. Hosting for ESPN and having my own daytime/nighttime talk show is the dream! The most rewarding moments are when kids from the younger generation tell me how much my content & story inspires them.”

This is only the beginning for Mills, and we're excited to see where his career takes him next.
