New York Mets ace and Cy Young candidate Jacob deGrom was scratched from his previous start. deGrom would return to start Sunday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, although he ended up leaving early after being examined by the team trainer, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

This isn't a good sign for the Mets or deGrom and should have the entire organization, fanbase, and baseball fans in general holding their breath. deGrom has been absolutely marvelous to begin 2021. On Sunday he tossed five innings and gave up just one hit and one run and three walks and six strikeouts.

He went out to warm up for the sixth inning and was pulled after tossing a couple of warmup pitches, which calls for a huge cause for concern.

On the year, his ERA is an unworldly 0.68, which is by far the top mark in the majors as he sits clearly in the driver's seat for the Cy Young. However,  an injury to the Mets' ace would be devastating to overcome.

With much hype surrounding the Mets after their huge offseason acquisition of Francisco Lindor, the team uttered much disappointment early on. However, as of late, they have caught a bit of fire as the National League East as a whole has been underwhelming.

deGrom is the best pitcher in the game and a true marvel to watch on a daily basis, so a serious injury would be tough for the entire league. For the Mets, the collective breath of the organization will be held until further details follow.
