If you haven't been paying attention, there has been a legend brewing in New York's other baseball team, and his name is Jacob DeGrom.

In the shadow of the Aaron Judge and the money printing of the pinstripes in the Bronx, the New York Mets have been simmering for the better half of the decade. But with DeGrom proved he's the true best pitcher in New York City after he just made history once more at the age of 32. We're not even a quarter of the way into the season yet — check this out:

Record or not, just the fact that DeGrom has logged 50 strikeouts in four appearances is just absolutely bananas. He's doing it in winning fashion so far too: the Mets (8-7) are currently in possession of a narrow hold of the NL East's top seed, and are the best home team outside of the LA Dodgers (duh) and San Francisco Giants. For a team that has been all over the place throughout the entirety of DeGrom's career, the Mets have an opportunity now to capitalize on both momentum and DeGrom's otherworldly talent to make a return to glory this season.

DeGrom is doing this in volume, by the way, staying on the mound decently late into games, especially as a 32-year-old. If he continues to defy age in this fashion, who knows where the Mets might end up. At the very least, he's certainly on pace to lead the NL in strikeouts for a third straight year — hopefully for the team and their fans, ‘least' will only be the beginning.

After all, the sport of baseball is just better when Citi Field is popping off like this:
