The MLB trade deadline is just days away and teams are already starting to make moves. The Tampa Bay Rays acquired slugger Nelson Cruz from the Minnesota Twins on Thursday, and now the Rays are involved in another deal. According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Rays are sending Rich Hill to the New York Mets.

The Rays get back two pieces, and the Mets add a veteran pitcher they were looking for after a couple of key injuries to their rotation. The Mets sit atop the National League East, for now.

The NL East is the most wide-open division in all of baseball and any of the top four teams could walk away with the crown by the end of the year.

On the year, Hill has posted a 6-4 record in games for Tampa Bay and has compiled a 3.87 ERA. In hindsight, it is a bit of a surprise that the Rays dealt Hill to the Mets, considering the Rays themselves are among the top teams in the American League East and just acquired Cruz.

Either way, they must have liked the return they got and Hill is headed back to the National League where he has spent a good portion of his lengthy MLB career.
