New York Mets fans gave former ace and current Baltimore Orioles right-hander Matt Harvey a standing ovation as he returned to Citi Field on Wednesday.

Fans applauded Harvey as he warmed up prior to the start of Wednesday's game. Some fans showcased their old Harvey Mets jerseys, while another had a sign saying “Happy Harvey Day!!”

The 32-year-old right-hander broke into the majors with the Mets in 2012, quickly cementing himself as one of the top young arms in baseball.

Harvey made the National league All-Star team in his first full season with New York in 2013, leading the majors in fielding independent pitching (2.01) and finishing fourth in the NL Cy Young voting. He experienced a setback late in the year, undergoing Tommy John surgery and missing the entirety of the 2014 season.

However, the man who became known as the “Dark Knight” would return with a vengeance.

Harvey was brilliant for a 2015 Mets team that made it all the way to the World Series. He had a 2.71 ERA in 29 starts and was terrific in October, though New York would lose to the Kansas City Royals in the Fall Classic.

Unfortunately, Harvey's career would begin to take a turn for the worse. Injuries limited him over the course of the next couple years, and he established a bit of a sour reputation in various clubhouses.

However, Harvey has experienced something of a rebirth after breaking camp and earning a spot in the Orioles rotation. He had a 3.60 ERA in his first seven starts, though his old club touched him up for three runs in the second inning on Wednesday.

Harvey had a bit of a tumultuous stint in the Big Apple, but Mets fans made sure to honor his contributions to the organization.
