The New York Mets went from leading the National League East for much of the year to finding themselves in third place at 59-60 and 4.5 games back of the Atlanta Braves.

It's been a drastic flip of the switch in the wrong direction for the Mets and the team's owner, Steve Cohen, is clearly frustrated too.

While it's true that the Mets offense has sputtered and they've lost five straight, taking to Twitter to vent your thoughts as an owner might not be the best move. It's certainly unique, imagine if more owners had accounts and spoke so freely about their club like Cohen does.

New York has been trying to do it without Jacob deGrom, the ace of their staff and the best pitcher in baseball. The hard throwing righty has been on the IL since July 18 and the Mets have sorely missed his lights out outings every fifth day.

The Mets are in a brutal stretch on their schedule in which they just finished up a series with the Los Angeles Dodgers and are now facing the San Francisco Giants. They've lost the first five games combined against those two teams.

It won't get any easier for New York as after their three game set against the Giants, they go right back to playing the Dodgers for four more games and then the Giants immediately after for three games.

It's a wide open race in the NL East between the Mets, Braves and Philadelphia Phillies but if the New York offense doesn't kick things into gear, they won't have a realistic shot.
