Prior the start of the 2022 MLB season, New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom made an interesting comment about his future. deGrom immediately let everyone know that he will be opting out of his current contract once the season ends. Since then, there has been a constant string of rumors surrounding the star.

Amid all the chaos of the season, a new rumor emerged surrounding Jacob deGrom's potentially new team. According to ESPN's Buster Olney, there are rumblings that that the Mets star will be pursued by the Atlanta Braves.

The Braves went on a historic run last season that saw them win the World Series title. A big part of their success in the postseason was their pitching staff holding up against the best of the best. Adding Jacob deGrom to a rotation that already boasts the likes of Max Fried and Charlie Morton will solidify their spot on top of the division over the Mets.

The Mets are not going to let their long-time star go that easily, though, especially to a division rival. deGrom has also expressed his interest in staying with the team long-term despite planning to opt out. Perhaps the star is just looking to negotiate a better contract to stay in New York.

deGrom and the Mets have more things to worry about in the present, though. They still hold the top seed in the NL East for the time being. However, the Braves are hot on their heels, as the defending champs are slowly finding their form. The race between the two elite teams will likely go down to the wire.
