The Miami Dolphins are in the middle of a rebuild, but they showed some signs of life during the 2019 season. Although they weren't always the most talented team, the team always fought.

This is a big offseason for the Dolphins mostly because of the excitement for the draft. People can't forget about free agency though, because with a strong offseason this team could surprise a lot of people. So who should the team go after? Let's breakdown three targets for the Dolphins in free agency.

Melvin Gordon – Running Back

The Miami Dolphins have a serious need at running back and they should go after one of the best targets, Melvin Gordon. Gordon held out part of the 2019 season hoping for a new contract but he still had a nice season. He finished the season with the Los Angeles Chargers rushing 162 times for 612 yards and eight touchdowns. He also caught 42 passes for 296 yards and a touchdown.

The expectation next season is the Dolphins will have a young quarterback, which means it's even more important to have a strong running game. If the team doesn't get Gordon or another true starting running back, they did this offseason all long.

Anthony Castonzo – Offensive line

One addition on the offensive line this offseason probably isn't enough, but bringing in Anthony Castonzo would be a great start. There is a chance Castonzo could retire but as long as he comes back, he is going to be a sought after target.

Castonzo is a tackle, but he really is an upgrade for the Dolphins anywhere on the line. He is 31 years old so the age is a bit of a concern, but as long as he is committed to playing for the next few years, a long term deal still makes sense.

Byron Jones – Cornerback

Byron Jones is listed as a cornerback, but he can also play safety, which is a perfect fit for the Dolphins system. Brian Flores wants his cornerbacks and safeties to both be able to cover and be impact players against the run.

Jones doesn't miss a lot of tackles and is one of the better run defending cornerbacks in the league. The Dallas Cowboys want to bring Jones back but there are a lot of players that need to be re-signed.

If Jones is the odd man out he would look really good down in Miami wearing a dolphin on his helmet.
